About the New Hospital
Welcome to the new Parkland hospital. Thanks to the overwhelming 82 percent voter approval in November 2008, the new hospital is scheduled to be completed in 2014 and is the largest hospital construction project in America. The facility will encompass 2.5 million square feet with 862 beds, adding desperately needed space particularly in critical areas such as the emergency room, operating room and the burn and neonatal intensive care units.
But the importance of building a new Parkland goes beyond numbers. It represents Parkland’s commitment to serving the residents of Dallas County for generations to come, training tomorrow’s health care providers, providing not just adequate care, but redefining public health care by building a facility that will allow us to better provide more patient-centered care in a healing environment that is second to none.
Parkland Memorial Hospital is the public hospital for Dallas County. Our original facility opened in 1894, with the current facility opening in 1954. Today Parkland Health & Hospital System operates a 672-bed hospital, 11 primary care clinics and many outreach and educational programs. Parkland was the first Level I trauma center in Texas and is one of the busiest ERs in the country. We are home to the second largest civilian burn unit in the U.S. and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Parkland is redefining public health care. Time has changed technology, leading causes of disease and death, emergency transportation and the outward appearance of the facility; however, the health system’s mission for the future is based on the same promise it was founded upon - the pledge of medical care to all in need.
To furnish medical aid and hospital care to indigent and needy persons residing in the hospital district.
By our actions, we will define the standards of excellence for public academic health systems.
Dedicated to the health and well-being of individuals and communities entrusted to our care.
